What Is a Whole House Fan?

Since it is normally cooler in the evening and mornings, this would be the best time to turn on a whole house fan. Homeowners simply have to open a few windows and the whole house fan will cool and ventilate the entire home. Whole house fans can exchange the entire air in a home every 3-4 minutes or 15-20 time per hour.

When running the system for several hours, all the hot air will be pulled out of the mass in the home. This process is called Thermal Mass Cooling. The hot air is pulled out and then vented through the attic. This allows the home to stay cooler the next day because the entirety of the home was ridden from heat. The home will feel significantly fresher because of this.

How It Works

Anytime it is cooler outside than the inside of a home, the QuietCool whole house fan system will work effectively. In the summer, this normally happens in the late afternoon to early evening and through to the next morning.

What Happens

When whole house fans are turned on, the fans will pull the cooler outdoor air into your home, through your windows, across your living space, into the attic, and out the attic vents, replacing the hot, stale air. This helps cool the home and attic by up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit or more.

When using a QuietCool whole house fan, we recommend starting by cooling the area which will be most occupied. For example, in most family situations, the early evening is spent in the kitchen and family room area. Assuming this is the case, it is where you would want to start cooling. As it gets later in the evening, and even cooler outside, we recommend opening more windows in other rooms of your home. Then, when it is time to sleep, close all the windows in the home except those in the bedrooms that are occupied. This will provide each room with a cool breeze if needed. Remember when using a QuietCool system to be sure not to open too many windows or open any single window too wide. 3-6’’ and just a few windows will suffice to make your home a fresh-aired paradise.

Instant Breeze

The cool breeze begins when a window or two is opened and the QuietCool fan is turned on. The cooler outside air will immediately begin to create a breeze inside the home making the homeowner feel up to 10 degrees cooler, and sometimes more, instantly. This breeze will be carried through your home to each QuietCool whole house fan that is on and in use; thus, beginning the cooling process. At the same time, the cooler outdoor air will be brought into the attic and pushed through the attic vents causing the hot stale air in the attic to be exhausted. Exhausting the hot air inside your attic will allow your home to stay cooler throughout the day.

As it gets later in the evening, and even cooler outside, we recommend opening more windows in other rooms of your home. Then at bedtime, close all the windows in the home except those in the bedrooms that are occupied. This will provide each room with a cool breeze as long as needed. If a QuietCool is installed in each bedroom as we recommended, the homeowner can enjoy the breeze and your privacy with your door closed.

Note: When using the QuietCool system, be sure to not open too many windows or open any windows too wide, as this will lessen the cooling breeze that is felt. There is a “sweet spot” when window opening(s) throughout the home are “just right” to cause a nice active breeze to be felt at each open window.

Controls

Wireless RF Control Kit

We are in a constant search for affordable comfort and the Wireless RF Control Kit is yet another example of this. This easily installable control requires no down the wall wiring, can be used up to 100 feet away, and you can pair up to 20 remotes to one fan. This allows you to keep the remote in your room, place one in every room, or simply not have to get up off the couch to experience QuietCool benefits.

Thermostat

QuietCool Pro Attic Fans include a programmable thermostat. With the included thermostat, all you have to do is set your desired temperature and then let the fan take it from there! And since our Pro series attic fans are extremely energy-efficient, your fans can run all day and night simply by utilizing the pre-selected thermostat.

Smart Attic Fan Control (Bluetooth)

Our Smart Control App allows you to set presets, turn your Smart Control enabled fan whenever you want, see the temperature of your attic and the humidity of the attic so you know exactly when to have your fan running. This unique control also has a Two or Three-Speed Auto-Adjustment based on temperature so your fan is never working harder than it has to. We are proud to have industry-leading technology that gives you complete control of your cooling.
